Liverpool manager search: Ruben Amorim emerges as concrete option

Liverpool are checking on multiple candidates as they want to bring the right successor to Jurgen Klopp before the start of the next season.

Klopp will leave the club at the end of the season after nine years of stay, and the Reds need to appoint the right profile manager who will carry his legacy forward.

Xabi Alonso, the former Liverpool midfielder, was touted as a potential replacement for Klopp, but he has decided to stay with Bayer Leverkusen for at least another season. Alonso is doing an incredible job at Bayer and he thinks it is the right place for him.

Liverpool will look for other options. Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Ruben Amorim has emerged as the “main name” on Liverpool’s list. The Reds have been informed about his release clause, which as per The Telegraph, can be triggered at the end of this season for around £12.8 m (€15 million).

Romano wrote on X: “Ruben Amorim remains the main name on Liverpool list as new head coach; not the only one but concrete option being considered. Liverpool are informed about the clause into his contract at Sporting, as already reported weeks ago. Shortlist also includes more candidates.”

Liverpool checking on other candidates

The Reds will be thorough with their selection process. Following the appointments of Michael Edwards as the CEO and Richard Hughes as the sporting director, one would expect the Reds will not make any rash decisions.

Amorim has done an incredible job at Sporting and in terms of style, his approach is more or less similar to that of Klopp. The 39-year-old has already delivered Sporting’s first league title in 19 years, and it appears that he is leading the race to succeed Klopp at Anfield.

Liverpool are also checking on Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi who has a termination clause in his deal of around £12m. Liverpool have considered a move for Julian Nagelsmann, but it looks unlikely that he will take charge at Anfield.
