Liverpool would be ready to invest on Teun Koopmeiners

Liverpool face competition from Juventus for Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners

Liverpool would be ready to invest €60 million on Atalanta star Teun Koopmeiners amid interest from two Serie A giants, according to Corriere dello Sport (page 8).

The Merseyside giants bolstered their midfield department last summer with the purchases of Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch.

The club are still on the search for reinforcements and Corriere dello Sport today claim that they are prepared to offer fierce competition to Napoli and Juventus for Koopmeiners.

The Dutchman recently told De Telegraaf that he wants to leave Atalanta this summer. The midfielder added that he would be open to bearing the rain to join some Premier League clubs.

Corriere dello Sport claim that Napoli and Juventus are in the running for his services, but the Italian heavyweights cannot match the spending power of clubs from the English top-flight.

Liverpool have been monitoring Koopmeiners ‘very closely’ and ‘would be ready’ to invest €60m which is currently the asking price.

Koopmeiners would be a fine acquisition for Liverpool

The 26-year-old is a left-footed midfielder capable of playing in different positions. He started off his career at AZ from the number six role, but has operated in the number eight and number 10 positions this term.

His versatility would make him a brilliant signing for the Reds. The Dutch international has registered 12 goals and four assists from 34 appearances this season. He has scored with every fourth shot on goal.

Meanwhile, he has provided almost two key passes per appearance. His work rate, positioning and high pressing are among his other strengths. In our view, he would fit into the current playing style at the club.

Of course, the tactics could change with manager Jurgen Klopp set to leave. We believe any approach for Koopmeiners could be put on hold until the hierarchy confirm the appointment of a new head coach.

The board would ideally want the Dutchman in the squad ahead of pre-season. Koopmeiners could come in as a replacement for the injury-prone Thiago Alcantara whose contract expires at the end of June.
