Crystal Palace could be set for a major rebuilding work next summer under Oliver Glasner.
The Eagles will not only need exciting young talents but they also need to keep hold of some of their top players.
According to a report from The Athletic, the future of Palace winger Eberechi Eze is “uncertain” beyond the end of the season. Manchester City wanted to sign him last summer but they opted to go for Matheus Nunes instead.
Pep Guardiola’s side haven’t lost track of Eze and his performances this season will have caught the eye again.
The 25-year-old has been at Selhurst Park for four years and may now aspire to play for a big club. Eze has a release clause in his contract that runs until 2027 and the Eagles are in a “strong negotiating position” for him.
Could Eberechi Eze leave in the summer?
Eze is obviously an important player for Palace but he is probably not suited to Glasner’s style.
Even though he came from a long injury lay-off, Glasner put him straight into the side against Tottenham. He brings a lot to the game, and there is a feeling that without him Palace are blunt.
However, he gave passes cheaply against Spurs, and he slowed the game down.
Glasner has a different playing philosophy. He relies on “dynamic, quick counter-attacks, swift switches of play and overloading the penalty area” against weaker teams.
Against strong opposition, Palace may come up with a more defensive outlook but the main style will remain the same. So, Eze will have to adjust his game style accordingly, and the next three months’ will be crucial for him.
Palace could lose other key players next summer. Marc Guehi has been targeted by several Premier League clubs, and the Eagles are reportedly checking on options to replace him, in case he leaves.
