Manchester United eye move for Jarrad Branthwaite

Manchester United have had a disappointing 2023-24 campaign but they can still end the season on a high.

The Red Devils should look to win the FA Cup after defeating Liverpool in the quarter-finals and try to secure the fifth spot in the league.

There is a high probability that the fifth-placed team from the Premier League could play in the Champions League next season, and the Red Devils should aim for that.

Irrespective of where they finish, United are expected to make some changes to their squad next summer, and signing a new defender remains a top priority for them.

The Red Devils are looking to invest in young talents, which means the club could be willing to offload players like Raphael Varane or Harry Maguire.

Varane has one full season left on his contract and he is being targeted by clubs in Saudi Arabia. Likewise, Maguire is being chased by West Ham who previously failed to sign him.

Manchester United eye move for Jarrad Brathwaite

According to a report from The Telegraph, the Red Devils are keeping close tabs on Jarrard Branthwaite.

The 21-year-old centre-back enjoyed a fantastic loan spell at PSV Eindhoven last season, and he has broken into the senior team at Everton under Sean Dyche. He has made 25 starts in the Premier League, producing some stellar displays.

Micah Richards hailed him on BBC Match of the Day as a “magnificent” player, and he is emerging as one of the prime summer targets for the Red Devils.

His impressive form hasn’t gone unnoticed as Gareth Southgate called him up to the England senior camp for the recent friendlies. However, he didn’t play a single minute and Ian Wright has slammed the decision from Southgate.

Everton could be willing to sell their prized asset considering their financial situation. Moreover, if they suffer relegation to the Championship, they will certainly have to offload some of their star players including Brathwaite, and United could fancy their chances.

The young defender has a contract at Goodison Park until 2027 and Man Utd need to pay over £50m to secure his signature.
