Leeds United maintained their unbeaten run in the Championship in 2024 as they secured a 2-2 draw against Watford on Friday night (29 March) at Vicarage Road.
The Whites had a great opportunity to move to the top of the table after Leicester City suffered a 1-0 defeat against Bristol City in the early kick-off on Friday.
Leeds twice came from behind to salvage a point with Mateo Joseph stealing the limelight after scoring inside 25 seconds after coming off the bench. The Whites looked disjointed in the first half with Daniel Farke making some forced changes to the side due to injuries.
The Whited left-back Junior Firpo wasn’t expected to feature after he arrived late from international duty. However, the 27-year-old made the bench and played the final 25 minutes as well.
The former Barcelona defender took to Instagram to share the message: “Came back on time. Well fought point on the road. Let’s make it a good one on Monday at home.”
Joseph reacted to his post, adding: “Very good brother.”
Leeds United need to win against Hull City
The Whites have now dropped to second in the league behind Ipswich Town and the race for promotion is turning out to be a thriller.
Phil Hay of The Athletic has claimed that Willy Gnonto and Connor Roberts will miss up to three weeks, but Ilia Gruev could be in contention to return on Monday.
Firpo is expected to start against Hull City. Sam Byram started on the left-hand side but he failed to make an impact. Firpo has been superb for the Whites since the turn of the year, and the club need to decide whether to extend his deal at Elland Road.
Leeds remain the only side in the Championship who have not lost a single game at Elland Road this season and Farke will be looking for a strong response from they face Hull City.
If Gruev returns to the side, it will allow Farke to continue with Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon at the back.
In other Leeds news, Tom Cleverley has praised 22-year-old Whites player as the best in the league.
