Everton are yet to secure their first win in 2024 after suffering another defeat in the Premier League.
The Toffees have suffered their third defeat in the last five games in the Premier League as they lost 2-0 against Manchester United at Old Trafford on Saturday.
Everton haven’t won at Old Trafford in their last ten meetings, and that record remained intact. The Toffees created loads of opportunities, especially in the first half, but two individual errors let them down once again.
Both Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford scored from the spot to give United a healthy 2-0 lead at the break. In the second half, they just kept control and protected the lead, although Alejandro Garnacho was outstanding for the home side.
In the 29th minute of the match, Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite made one good clearance, and Matt Holland while commentating on the game, praised him heavily, saying he is “some player” who has got loads of “quality”.
Holland, who also appears on talkSPORT to share his punditry, says the 21-year-old has developed a good partnership at the back alongside James Tarkowski who made a terrible error in the game today leading to the first goal.
“Some player, Jarrard Branthwaite. Formed a really good partnership with Tarkowski. That loan on PSV – he has really grown there. Great composure and quality on the ball,” said Holland on World Feed (around 30th min).
Will Brathwaite stay beyond the summer?
It looks really bleak at the moment for the Toffees who just cannot find a way to win, although very few had expected them to pick up a win at Old Trafford.
It’s been a recurrent them for them, and there seems to be no remedy for it. They are capable of creating good chances, but the Toffees do not know how to finish those chances. They’re simply not clinical enough.
The big question is now – can they avoid the drop this season? Despite getting back four points, they are not safe yet. The Toffees could face more point deduction and that could take them closer to the relegation zone. They have to win games.
The form has been dreadful since the turn of the year, and it seems Sean Dyche is running out of ideas on how to make it work.
Brathwaite has been superb this season, and he is getting rich plaudits from football pundits across the country. Even if Everton stay up, they are expected to receive offers for their young defender who is already attracting interest from elsewhere.
