Micah Richards raves about Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold

Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold should be in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the Euros but where he will play remains to be seen.

The 25-year-old right-back has been superb this season for the Reds but he is currently out injured. He has scored two goals and managed four assists in the Premier League this season already, and he is hoping to return to the side after the international break.

In the latest episode of The Rest Is Football, Micah Richards has described him as a “world-class” right-back. While talking about options in midfield for England, Richards says that Alexander-Arnold can play in there alongside Declan Rice, but he is not a proven midfielder.

Alexander-Arnold is arguably one of the best full-backs in Premier League history, and it’s hard to believe the number of goals and assists he has managed already.

“You can say to me Trent can play in there [midfield]. But he is not a proven midfield player. He is a world-class right-back,” said Richards.

Trent Alexander-Arnold can play in midfield

Alexander-Arnold started his playing career playing in midfield and many believe that his passing range is as good as that of Kevin de Bruyne.

He can not only pick the right crosses, but his diagonal deliveries and through passes are equally marvellous. Klopp has used him in midfield before, and probably that is where his future lies for Liverpool, especially with the emergence of Conor Bradley.

The young right-back has been sensational in recent weeks, and he has done incredibly well in the absence of Alexander-Arnold. It will be interesting to see what Klopp does when Alexander-Arnold returns to the side after injury lay-off.

Alexander-Arnold has a contract at Anfield until 2025, and Tony Cascarino even suggested that he could be sold, which seems a bizarre suggestion. Liverpool are expected to sort out his contract at the earliest as he is one of the key players for the club.
