Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson expected to leave the club

The next summer window is going to be massive for Newcastle United

After a disappointing campaign, the Magpies are expected to undergo a rebuilding process. The 2023-24 campaign has proved to be a kind of reality check for Newcastle, although injuries did play a big part in disrupting their plans.

At the same time, Newcastle are struggling to comply with the PSR rule, and it means they could be forced to sell some of their top players next summer.

Eddie Howe doesn’t expect a wholesome change to the squad but some players will inevitably be shipped out. One of them could be Newcastle hero, Callum Wilson.

The 32-year-old striker was linked with a move away from St James’ Park in the January window with West Ham one of the clubs showing interest in him. The deal didn’t materialize in the end.

However, his future could be up in the air next summer, and the Magpies scouts have been reportedly told to search for a new striker.

Callum Wilson set for Newcastle exit

According to a report from the Daily Mail, Wilson “will move on before next season”, and that will mean the club will have to find a new striker.

Signing a striker will be a priority for Howe in the summer, but the level of the signings will depend upon the incoming and outgoings elsewhere in the team.

Wilson joined the Magpies in the summer of 2020 and has scored 46 goals in over 100 appearances for the club. This season, he has managed seven goals in the Premier League in just eight starts.

He is currently out injured following surgery on a damaged pectoral tendon and could miss the rest of the season.

Howe rates him highly and hailed him as an “incredible” striker. He has a contract at St James’ Park until 2025, but the Magpies are likely to cash in on him next summer.
