Crystal Palace attacking midfielder Eberechi Eze has struggled for fitness at times this season but he could play a big role for the club as the Eagles look to stay clear of the relegation battle.
The 25-year-old midfielder returned to the starting line-up against Tottenham Hotspur in the previous game and scored a fantastic goal from a free-kick.
He has made only 14 starts in the league this season but has still managed six goals and an assist thus far.
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has praised him heavily, saying he has got a decent chance of making it into the England squad for the Euro championships.
Writing for Sportskeeda, Merson said that Eze has an “X-factor” about him and players like him are needed to win a major competition.
“Eberechi Eze is one of Palace’s brightest players and I think he’s got a decent chance of making it into Gareth Southgate’s squad for the Euros,” wrote Merson.
“He’s got the X-factor about him and you need players like that to win a major tournament.”
Can Crystal Palace keep hold of Eberechi Eze?
Premier League champions Manchester City were interested in signing him last summer but they Matheus Nunes instead. However, they still have an interest in the player and his performances will have caught their attention.
According to The Athletic, Palace are in a strong negotiating position for Eze in case any potential club try to sign him. Eze has a contract at Selhurst Park until 2027, and Palace are expected to demand a high transfer fee for him, although he has a release clause in his contract.
Despite his vast potential, it has been suggested that he slows the tempo down, something Oliver Glasner may not like. Glasner loves high-intensity football that involves dynamic movements and swift interchange of passes, so Eze may need to compromise on his style in order to fit into the system.
Crystal Palace will face Luton Town in the Premier League next and will look to return to winning ways.
