Everton are yet to pick up a Premier League win in 2024 and the Toffees could be in the mix for a tense relegation dogfight.
The Toffees are just above the relegation zone, only three points adrift of Luton Town, after getting four points back following their successful appeal over point reduction last month.
The uncertainty around the club takeover by 777 Partners is affecting the Toffees, while Everton are expected to face a second hearing over breaking PSR rules, which means they could lose more points.
A combination of all factors has played a big role as Everton are badly struggling at the moment to pick three points. They have played really well at times, but the results haven’t gone in their favour.
Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson has suggested on Soccer Saturday (16 March) that he thinks Luton might avoid the drop and is worried about Everton because of their dreadful form.
Paul Merson makes Everton relegation prediction
He said on Sky Sports: “My worry would be Everton because they keep on going under the radar and they keep on losing football matches. And the worrying thing is sometimes they keep on playing well and they’re losing football matches.
“That’s even more of a worry. For me, I think Luton still get out of it.”
Sheffield United and Burnley have been dreadful this season, and they occupy the bottom two positions. It is almost a foregone conclusion that they will go down to the Championship, but who will join them remains to be seen.
The Toffees need to find ways to pick up wins. They could lose more points in their second hearing so the Toffees need to get more points on board, and they cannot rely on others.
Everton have been wasteful in front of goal while their main striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin hasn’t scored in the last three months. Unless they improve after the international break, there could be genuine concern about their survival chances this season.
