Four players from Leeds United featured for Wales on Thursday as they earned a 4-1 win against Finland at Cardiff.
The likes of Joe Rodon produced an 8/10 heroic display, while Connor Roberts was equally brilliant. Daniel James scored the fourth goal from the bench while Ethan Ampadu was outstanding once again.
Ampadu, who has been simply magnificent for Leeds, has continued his impressive form for his Wales who just need one more win against Poland on Tuesday to qualify for the Euro Championships.
It was a special night for Ampadu who reached his 50th cap for his country. At 23, he has already cemented his position in the national side, and Rob Page believes that Ampadu has all the qualities to become the future captain of Wales.
“Ethan (Ampadu) on his 50th cap, I thought he was immense. Brennan was a constant threat. Brooksy with his finish. We knew exactly what we were going to get with Harry (Wilson) and Brooksy in the pockets,” said Page after the game, as quoted by Wales Online.
Ethan Ampadu has been sensational for Leeds United
Ampadu has been everpresent for the Whites this season making 37 starts in the Championship. He has been receiving loads of praise from football pundits recently, but the versatile midfielder is not getting carried away.
Daniel Farke used him as a defensive midfielder, in a similar role that he performs for Wales. After Pascal Struijk got injured, many thought that Farke could draft Charlie Cresswell into the starting line-up, but instead, he used Ampadu alongside Rodon at the heart of defence.
The move has turned out to be a masterstroke and Leeds have hit new heights in 2024 where they have been an immovable force at the back. It is on foundation of this defensive solidity, Leeds have managed 12 wins and a draw in 13 Championships since the turn of the year.
The Whites have jumped to the top of the Championship table, similar on points with Leicester who have played a game less.
