Simon Johnson drools over Leeds United striker Patrick Bamford

Leeds United maintained their impressive form in the Championship as they moved to second in the league with a 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Friday night at Hillsborough.

Goals from Patrick Bamford and Wilfried Gnonto earned the Whites all three points.

It was a tough game against a side that won four games in a row before this one, and it need a moment of sheer quality to break them down. Junior Firpo didn’t have a great first half, but he produced a fabulous delivery for Bamford to tap in.

In the second half, a long ball from Illan Meslier was superbly controlled by Bamford who passed it on to Georginio Rutter. The 21-year-old attacking midfielder sliced a brilliant through-ball to Wilfried Gnonto, who easily smashed home.

Simon Johnson reacted to the second goal on X posted by Sky Sports and hailed Bamford as a “special” player.

“This touch from Paddy under the pressure he was is special. Pinning a centre half and still being able to carry out your process with quality is so difficult,” wrote Johnson.

Patrick Bamford has been outstanding for Leeds United

This has been a massive turnaround for Bamford and Leeds. Bamford had gone through an injury nightmare in the past 18 months and at one point it felt like he’s probably finished.

However, there was never any doubt about his quality, and all he needed was to stay fit. Bamford has proved to be an important asset for the club once again.

He has now scored eight goals and provided two assists in all competitions, as Leeds have shifted to a near gear with him in the side. The Whites have managed 11 wins and a draw in their last 12 games in the Championship as they look to secure automatic promotion.

In other Leeds news, Ethan Ampadu was blown away by one Whites teammate after what he did v Sheffield Wednesday.
