Leeds United failed to move to the top of the Championship table but grabbed a late equaliser against Watford on Friday night.
The Whites extended their unbeaten run to 14 games after they were held to a 2-2 draw at Vicarage Road. Mateo Joseph scored within 25 seconds after coming from the bench to salvage a precious point for the Whites who struggled horribly in the first half.
Leeds conceded two goals in the first half but looked solid after the break once Daniel Farke restored the partnership of Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon at the back.
Crysencio Summerville scored a spectacular goal after cutting inside from the left and curling the ball into the top corner.
Watford manager Tom Cleverley was pleased with his side’s effort during the game against a strong Leeds side and has particularly praised Summerville, saying he is the league’s best player.
Cleverley said, as relayed by Adam Pope: “We were the best side for 65 mins. I’m very proud of them. Brave in possession…. Playing with that much intensity its hard to hold on against a side like Leeds United who have the league’s best player in Summerville.”
Crysencio Summerville back to old best for Leedss United
Leeds will be pretty disappointed that they failed to seize the opportunity to move to the top of the table. Leicester lost 1-0 against Bristol City in the early kick-off on Friday, and Leeds had a great opportunity to take a three-point lead.
The race for promotion is very tight this season. Ipswich Town have now moved to the top of the league after they won 1-0 against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.
Farke said after the game that while he is pleased with the result, he is not happy that his side failed to prepare properly for this game. The players have hardly had one training session ahead of the game (due to the international break) and the Whites missed some of their key players through injuries.
However, Summerville has been superb once again and it seems he has returned to his old best. The 22-year-old has scored 16 goals this season and registered eight assists in the Championship. In recent weeks, he saw a blip in form, having failed to score in the previous seven games.
When Leeds desperately needed a moment of inspiration, Summerville stepped up and scored one of the best goals of the season to put Leeds back on track.
