UK newspaper gushes about Leeds United defender Connor Roberts

Leeds United defender Connor Roberts impressed yet again for Wales who agonisingly missed out on a qualification for Euro 2024.

The Whites winger Daniel James missed a crucial penalty as Wales lost against Poland in the penalty shoot-out in Cardiff on Tuesday night. Poland failed to register a single shot on target over 120 minutes, and Roberts did a brilliant job.

The Leeds duo, Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu were also excellent against Cardiff. Wales Online has shared their player ratings from the game, and they have given Roberts 7/10 for his brilliant performance.

In the first half, he produced an “eye-catching” moment of skill, while delivering a “dangerous” cross in the box later. The 28-year-old also did well against Arsenal Jakub Kiwior, and Wales Online says he “skinned” the 24-year-old.

They wrote: “Produced an eye-catching moment of skill to get out of trouble in the first half. Also skinned Jakub Kiwior before putting in a dangerous cross into the box.”

Heartbreak for Leeds United players on international duty

Rob Page will be happy with the individual performances of the four Leeds players during the international break, but having failed to quality to hurt them badly.

Roberts, who joined Leeds on loan from Burnley in the January transfer window, took time to settle into Daniel Farke’s system. He has made just one start in the Championship and a further seven starts have come from the bench.

Nevertheless, these players will have to get over the disappointment quickly. Leeds, currently top of the Championship table, are in the mix for automatic promotion to the Premier League and Farke needs all his key players to deliver.

Roberts is a versatile defender who can play both right and left back. Junior Firpo is set to miss the next game for Leeds against Watford, and it will be interesting to see if Farke uses him in the left-back role, although Sam Byram looks like a natural replacement.
