Viktor Gyokeres is on Arsenal transfer wish-list

Arsenal should be looking to sign a new striker next summer.

The Gunners were heavily linked with a move for Ivan Toney in the January transfer window but the Brentford striker stayed on at his present club. It has been suggested that the Gunners have cooled their interest in him.

There are suggestions that the likes of Eddie Nketiah or Gabriel Jesus could be shipped out, and Mikel Arteta wants to bring in someone who can make the side even better.

Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that many clubs, including the Gunners, are chasing Viktor Gyokeres. The 25-year-old striker joined Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2023, and he has proved to be a massive hit for them.

In his first season at the club, he has scored 36 goals in all competitions already, and Romano has suggested that he has a release clause of around £85m. He has been in “incredible” form, and it won’t be easy for the Gunners to negotiate a deal for him.

Arsenal monitoring Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres

Romano wrote on Daily Briefing: “Viktor Gyokeres is a player Arsenal for monitoring, for sure he’s a player who is on their list. Arsenal have still not decided who will be their main target for the summer, they will first hold internal talks to make that decision, but I’m told that their scouts have been in attendance multiple times to follow Gyokeres.

“The Swedish striker is having a fantastic season at Sporting, he’s made an incredible contribution, but his release clause is there and it’s €100m. We know how tough it is to negotiate with Portuguese clubs – just look at Tottenham with Pedro Porro last January. I don’t see Sporting being flexible in negotiations, so it will be a tough one, but for sure Arsenal and other clubs in Europe have an interest, so Gyokeres will be part of the strikers domino this summer.”

Gyokeres scored tons of goals at Coventry City but has taken his game to a new level at Sporting.

Strikers usually do not come cheap and the Gunners could be forced to pay a massive transfer fee to sign the Swedish striker. Moreover, the threat of PSR could force top clubs across the league to spend wisely, and the Gunners may pass their chance to sign Gyokeres next summer.

However, a top-quality striker is necessary for Arsenal. Both Jesus and Nketiah are not prolific scorers but bring different qualities to the side. It appears that Gyokeres is on the Gunners’ transfer wish list, and they have been monitoring him. It will be interesting to see if they will move for him in the summer, especially if they can sell either of the two strikers.
