Crystal Palace have invited more pressure on themselves as they lost 1-0 against AFC Bournemouth in the previous game on Tuesday night away from Selhurst Park.
The Eagles are eight points above the drop zone but they could soon find close to the relegation zone if they fail to win games.
Under Oliver Glasner, Palace have taken only five points from five games, and they could suffer more misery when they take on Premier League champions Manchester City in their next game on Saturday at Selhurst Park.
Alan Shearer has said on Match of the Day (3 April) that he expects the Eagles to stay in the Premier League. The popular pundit feels that Palace are looking to get through the season and start fresh rebuilding next summer.
“I think it was case of get through the season, stay in the Premier League, which they are going to do, and look to build again in the summer and see where they get next season,” said Shearer.
Crystal Palace need to win games
The Eagles are up against Pep Guardiola’s side in their next game. City are looking to win all of their remaining games and put pressure on their rivals. Palace can play a big role in the title race if they get something from this game.
This has been a frustrating 2023-24 season for the Eagles where they have been below par. Under Roy Hodgson, they looked like a club heading in the wrong direction and Glasner was appointed to arrest the decline.
Glasner is a fantastic manager but he needs more time to build the squad to his own taste. He has vented his frustration after the game, saying that players are not making the best use of opportunities created. It has been a recurrent theme and has hurt them throughout the season.
Palace could welcome back Michael Olise in their next game. Shearer and Micah Richards believe that Olise could leave in the summer.
