Aston Villa in the hunt to sign Jota Silva

Aston Villa will look to bolster their attacking options if they qualify for the Champions League next season.

After 32 games, the Villans remain fourth in the league, and they must continue winning games until the end of the season. With Tottenham breathing down their necks, they must share the same points.

Balancing between Europe and the Premier League won’t be easy and Unai Emery will need a big squad. Bolstering the attacking midfield department is key for Villa, and they are showing keen interest in Portuguese attacker Jota Silva.

According to a report from the Sunday Mirror (14 April, page 71), Brighton, Wolves and Fulham are also set to battle with Villa to sign the 24-year-old attacking midfielder.

Jota is dubbed the “Portuguese Jack Grealish” because of his looks and similar playing style. He has been a standout performer for Vitoria de Guimaraes, managing 14 goals and five assists in all competitions this season.

The player is completely obsessed with playing in the Premier League, and he could be tempted to join if the right offer comes his way. He is seen as a “rising star” in Portugal and would cost around £17m.

Jota Silva is versatile and perfect for Aston Villa

Jota is a versatile attacking midfielder. He can play on both flanks upfront, as a number 10 and as a striker as well.

The report claims that the midfielder will probably not be around in Portugal next season, and it remains to be seen if Villa makes an offer for him.

With the PSR rules making it difficult for clubs to spend recklessly, signing Jota makes sense as he would come at a decent price. Moreover, if Villa secure Champions League football, it will become easier for them to attract him ahead of other rivals.

He was recently named the Portugal Liga’s Player of the Month for March, and chances are high that he could be lured away from Portugal in the summer. He is playing with supreme confidence at the moment and could be a smart addition for Villa.
