Daniel Farke confirms Jamie Shackleton will miss Leeds United clash v Coventry City

Leeds United will face Coventry City away from home on Saturday in the Championship and Daniel Farke has shared the latest team news ahead of the match.

The Whites are heading into this game on the back of a 3-1 win against Hull City and they have moved to second in the league. With six games remaining in the promotion run-in, Farke will hope to get back all his key players in the perfect physical condition.

Leeds have struggled a bit to find the rhythm after the international break, but they still managed to secure all important three points at Elland Road in the last game.

Ipswich Town are leading the table at the moment after they won 3-2 against Southampton. Leicester City also returned to winning ways, and the Foxes can move to the top of the table by winning their game in hand.

The Whites have badly missed Ilia Guev in their previous two games, and the 23-year-old is still not fully fit yet to face Coventry. Meanwhile, he is not the only player who could miss the game on Saturday.

Farke shares new update on Jamie Shackleton injury ahead of Coventry v Leeds

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Farke has confirmed that all the players who featured in the last game are available for selection except Jamie Shackleton.

The 24-year-old midfielder has picked up an adductor problem, and he will need at least two weeks to recover. It means he will “definitely miss” the weekend’s clash.

The central midfielder, who can also play on the right, has managed just seven league starts this season, with a further three coming from the bench.

The Leeds boss said: “We are still struggling with a few injury problems. All the players who were on the pitch in the squad for the last game are also available for Coventry as it stands.

“With one exception. Jamie Shackleton. The day after the game he had some problems with his adductors. We assessed him and he would be out for two weeks. He will definitely miss the Coventry game.”

The midfield remains a concern for Leeds

If Gruev fails to recover in time, Farke will likely to continue with Archie Gray and Glen Kamara pairing in midfield. In the previous game, we saw neither of them was comfortable in the holding midfield areas.

Farke said in the press conference that Gruev dictates the tempo, and brings calmness in the middle of the park with his precise passing and ability to keep possession in tight situations. Unfortunately, Leeds have another player who can do a similar job but the Whites boss probably won’t take that route again.

Ethan Ampadu played in midfield in the 2-2 draw against Watford, with Liam Cooper returning in defence alongside Joe Rodon. The move didn’t work as Leeds looked shaky at the back. It is a tricky situation for Leeds, but Farke has options.
