Daniel Farke provides Leeds United fitness update after loss v Coventry City

Leeds United missed the chance to go top of the Championship table after they lost 2-1 against Coventry City on Saturday away from home.

After Norwich City won 1-0 against Ipswich Town, there was an opportunity for the Whites to move ahead of their rivals, but they failed to pick up anything from the game.

Ellis Simms netted his 18th goal of the season, while Haji Wright added another after the break. Joel Piroe once again made a big impact as he scored his 12th goal of the season for Leeds.

The result puts an end to Leeds’ 15-game unbeaten run, and Daniel Farke said after the game that he wants his players to feel disappointed and suffer a bit.

Ilia Gruev returned to the starting line-up, while Willy Gnonto came on as a substitute after 84min. Connor Roberts replaced Kamara at the break. Farke said that Roberts, 28, looked “sharper” in training, and all three were included in the squad, as a result.

“Confident with Ilia. Connor and Willy, not that predictable before. Only one session with the team yesterday. Physios were still careful with him. Maybe 15 or 20 minutes. Connor looked sharper in training,” said Farke, as quoted by Leeds Live.

Leeds United need to bounce back to winning ways

The Whites will have to recover quickly and use the defeat as a motivation to win the remaining games. They face Sunderland on Tuesday (9 April) at Elland Road, and Farke will demand a strong response from his players.

Leeds have remained unbeaten at home this season, and they should be aiming to pick up six points from their next two games, both at Elland Road.

Leicester City have moved to the top of the table and have a game in hand. Ipswich Town are second in the league with 87 points, one point above the Whites.

Farke needs to get his team selection spot on. Roberts is likely to return to the right-back position against the Black Cats, while Gnonto should be able to spend more time on the pitch in the next game.
