Everton have formally lodged an appeal against the two-point deduction.
BBC Merseysport journalist Giulia Bould took to X to confirm that the Toffees have formally lodged their appeal against the second point deduction.
Everton was initially docked ten points, which was reduced to six after a successful appeal. The Toffees were then handed another two-point deduction last week for breaching the PSR rules.
The Premier League initially argued for a five-point penalty before it reduced it to two due to mitigating circumstances.
As a result, Everton have lost eight points this season and were forced into an undeserved relegation dogfight. The Toffees are two points above the drop zone, and they need to win a few games to secure their Premier League status.
The independent commission must give the final verdict before 24 May, five days after the final game of the Premier League season. It means the Toffees may not know the outcome of their fate even if they secure safety on the final day of the season.
Bould wrote on X: “I can exclusively confirm Everton have today formally lodged their appeal against their second points deduction this season. Everton lost a further 2 points for a financial breach The appeal process now starts and must be concluded by 24 May, 5 days after final game of the PL season.”
According to Sky Sports, Everton are appealing for one point to be deferred until next season.
Everton need to win more games
The only way Everton can stay safe is by winning games and getting more points under their belt, although it is easier said than done.
Chelsea have been very poor this season and the Toffees must aim to get something from this game. What can work in their favour is that they have some big fixtures coming up which they play at Goodison Park.
They face Nottingham Forest, Brentford and Sheffield United at home and these are the games they should be aiming to win. Also, they face Luton Town away from home, and it’s a massive game for both teams.
The Toffees have looked solid in recent weeks and picked up their first win last week against Burnley at home. Dominic Calvert-Lewin has scored in back-to-back games, and the England striker will be keen to end the season on a high.
