Liverpool are in no rush to appoint Jurgen Klopp’s successor, but they are in the process of selecting the right candidate for the job.
The Reds have been linked with a move to appoint current Wolves manager Gary O’Neil, but James Pearce of The Athletic has suggested that the 40-year-old is not under consideration for the Anfield managerial job.
Jurgen Klopp will leave the club at the end of the season, and the Reds are searching for a potential replacement. Michael Edwards has returned to the club as CEO, while Richard Hughes has been appointed as sporting director, and both of them will have a huge say in who becomes the next Liverpool manager.
Dave OCKOP reported earlier that O’Neil has been interviewed by Liverpool to replace Klopp. O’Neil has done a fantastic job at Wolves, but it appears that he is not even close to being considered as an option for the role.
Pearce wrote on X: “Gary O’Neil is not under consideration for the Liverpool job.”
Liverpool do not need to panic
The Reds do not need to panic at the moment. They can take time to pick the right candidate.
It appears that Sporting Lisbon boss Ruben Amorim is no longer the leading candidate for the job. In fact, he has dropped down in Liverpool’s list of targets.
According to Melissa Reddy of Sky Sports, Feyenoord manager Arne Slot is emerging as one of the top candidates for this role. He ticks the criteria for the Anfield job although Feyenoord are determined to keep him.
Reddy adds that while Liverpool are still in talks with several candidates, Slot is currently leading the race.
Slot could be a good option for the Reds. His Feyenoord side are very good at pressing and make most tackles in the opposition’s final third in the Eredivisie.
