Jamie Carragher believes Ruben Amorim will succeed Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has tipped the Reds’ long-standing target Ruben Amorim to succeed Jurgen Klopp at Anfield this summer amid mounting speculation around the Sporting CP tactician.

Since Xabi Alonso announced his intention to remain at Bayer Leverkusen next season, Amorim has been considered the primary candidate to take on the Liverpool job.

The 39-year-old has previously played down speculation linking him with the role. Earlier this month, he rubbished claims that a deal had been agreed with the Reds, but the rumours about his future persist.

So far, Amorim is the only name strongly linked with the Liverpool job and Carragher believes he could thrive at Anfield, especially if he arrives on the back of leading Sporting to the Portuguese League title.

“I think it looks like he’s the favourite right now,” Carragher said on Sky Sports.

“He’s only 39. He’s been at Sporting for four years, won the title before, won a couple of cups and looks like he’s on for the double this season.

“If Liverpool could bring in a manager who’s a title winner in his last season at a previous job, I think that’ll be a very good acquisition for Liverpool.”

Julian Nagelsmann and Roberto De Zerbi have been touted as potential candidates, Unai Emery and Thomas Tuchel have also been mentioned, but Carragher believes Amorim will be the next Liverpool gaffer.

Amorim’s commendable work at Sporting has only increased his popularity among the European elite clubs.

Barcelona were ready to rival Liverpool for his signature, but the Spanish champions have turned their attention elsewhere, leaving the Reds with a clear path to securing his services.

It remains to be seen whether Amorim will make the switch to the Premier League after four successful years at Sporting.

He could leave the Portuguese giants with the perfect parting gift, with his side seven points clear at the top of the Primera Liga with five games remaining.
