Liverpool eye move for Willian Pacho

Liverpool would be interested in signing a new centre-back in the summer transfer window, and they have been linked with a host of players already.

While the Reds have yet to appoint their next manager, who will replace Jurgen Klopp, it appears that the club has been working behind the scenes to check the progress of some of the players they admire and could target in the summer.

According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, Liverpool still retains a keen interest in signing Eintracht Frankfurt defender Willian Pacho. The German club are aware that big Premier League clubs are keeping tabs on the 22-year-old, who has been a “key player” for them.

Pacho’s contract at the club expires in 2028, but Frankfurt would be willing to let him go if the right offer comes along. Plettenberg says the German club values him at over £42m. Premier League rivals Arsenal are also keen to sign him.

He wrote: “News Willian Pacho. Arsenal and Liverpool are still interested in Pacho and inquired about him. Eintracht Frankfurt is aware. The 22 y/o is allowed to leave Eintracht in the summer if someone pays between €50-60m in transfer fees. This price tag has been set. Contract valid until 2028. Key player.”

Liverpool need to bolster their defence

The Reds will have to sign a new defender in the summer. Joel Matip, unfortunately, picked up an ACL injury and he is unlikely to play any part this season. The defender has a contract until the end of the season, and Liverpool have shown no intention of extending it.

Jarell Quansah has progressed from the academy ranks and he has been superb for Jurgen Klopp’s side. With Virl van Dijk’s contract situation still yet to be resolved, Liverpool should be aiming to sign a young defender who has the potential to become a top-class player in the future.

Pacho has made 28 starts for Frankfurt this season in the Bundesliga. The Ecuador international averages 1.9 tackles and 4.5 clearances in the league, and the Reds could be really interested in bringing him to Anfield.

In other news, Liverpool are looking to make another key appointment in the coming days.
