Newcastle United could be looking to sign a new goalkeeper next summer and the Magpies are checking several options.
The injury to Nick Pope has hurt them badly. Pope is struggling to be fit to play again this season after he picked up a shoulder injury.
Veteran goalkeeper Martin Dubravka has struggled in most games while Loris Karius doesn’t seem to exude confidence. Karius will be a free agent in the summer and his contract won’t be renewed.
Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has been heavily linked with a move to St James’ Park. The England goalkeeper could leave the Gunners in the summer, and Newcastle have been touted to be his potential next destination.
According to a report from The Telegraph, Newcastle have Middlesborough goalkeeper Seny Dieng on their radar. The 29-year-old has impressed for Boro this season, and the Magpies want him as a back-up option.
Newcastle could sign Seny Dieng on bargain deal
Dieng has made 29 starts in the Championship this season and his performances have caught the attention of several Premier League and European clubs.
Crystal Palace could also move for Dieng if either Sam Johnstone or Dean Henderson leaves the club. Ipswich Town, who could play in the Premier League next season, are also keen to add him to their ranks. Sevilla have also watched him.
Boro signed Dieng for around £2m, and they would look to double their asking price should he leave.
At that price, it makes sense for the Magpies to go after him. Dieng is looking to play regularly for his country Senegal, and he may want to join a club where regular games are guaranteed, which he is getting at Riverside.
It will be interesting to see what Newcastle decide regarding their goalkeeping situation in the summer. Will they offload Dubravka? Will they sell Pope? Ramsdale would become the first-choice keeper at the club, should he move from Arsenal, and Pope may not accept the second-fiddle role.
