Newcastle in hunt to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White

The summer transfer window could be crucial for Newcastle United.

The Magpies have badly struggled with injuries this season, but it would be a great achievement for Eddie Howe if they secure a European spot next season.

It will be interesting to see how Newcastle manage to bolster their squad without breaching the PSR threshold. There are fears that Newcastle may need to offload some of their star players to comply with PSR rules and sign new players.

According to a report from the Sunday Mirror (April 14, page 70), the Magpies have earmarked Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White as one of their prime targets next summer.

Newcastle could be forced to offload one of their star players – Bruno Guimaraes – who has been a talisman figure for the club. Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City are admirers of the Brazilian who has a release clause of £100m.

In case he leaves, Newcastle will look to buy replacements, and Gibbs-White is emerging as one of their top options.

Morgan Gibbs-White would be fantastic signing for Newcastle

Forest are battling for survival in the Premier League and Gibbs-White is almost certain to leave if they drop down to the Championship.

The 24-year-old attacking midfielder has been one of Forest’s standout players. He has played across all positions upfront and also played in the number ten role.

He has managed five goals and seven assists in the Premier League and should be good enough to play for any top side including Newcastle.

It will be a huge blow for the Magpies if Guimaraes leaves the club in the summer, although Newcastle can rebuild the squad by spending the money wisely.

Gibbs-White is not the only Forest player being tracked by Newcastle. The report claims that the Magpies are also chasing Neco Williams, who can operate in either full-back or midfield positions. Leicester City’s Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Arsenal’s Emile Smith Rowe are also under consideration.

In other Newcastle news, Ally McCoist has raved about 24-year-old Magpies player after what he did v Tottenham.
