Tottenham Hotspur battle West Ham to sign Tosin Adarabioyo

Tottenham Hotspur could be looking to sign a new central defender this summer.

Ange Postecoglou has already suggested that Spurs would need a new central defender in the summer window, and Fulham centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo is emerging as a potential option.

According to a report from the Sunday Mirror (April 14, page 70), Spurs and West Ham are likely to go head-to-head for the Fulham centre-back.

Spurs signed Radu Dragusin from Genoa in the January transfer window, but Postecoglou needs more depth and quality in the defensive area.

Adarabioyo is out of contract at the end of the season, and Fulham boss Marco Silva is trying his best to persuade him to extend his deal. The Cottagers have already tabled a fresh contract offer, but he hasn’t signed a new deal as of now.

The Mirror claims that the 26-year-old is likely to leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season. AC Milan are interested, while Premier League rivals Liverpool are also in the race to secure his signature.

Adarabioyo would be a terrific signing for Tottenham

The former Manchester City centre-back joined Fulham in the summer of 2020 and has been a key player for the Cottagers. He has managed over 125 appearances for them and Silva hailed him as a “special” player previously.

There won’t be a shortage of admirers for Adarabioyo if he refuses to sign a new deal. Postecoglou has done a brilliant job with the north London club in his first season, and he is looking to guide them to a top-four finish.

Adarabioyo could be tempted to join a club that can offer him Champions League football, and Spurs could be an attractive destination for him. Liverpool will also require a need defender with Joel Matip likely to depart, but whether they will at all move for him is unclear.
