West Ham want Panathinaikos striker Fotis Ioannidis

West Ham could be looking to sign a new striker in the summer transfer window and they have been linked with a host of players already.

According to a report from The Sun, the Hammers are showing keen interest in Panathinaikos striker Fotis Ioannidis. Premier League rivals Fulham are also keen, while Serie A giants Lazio are also in the race for his signature.

The 24-year-old is a “prolific” striker and West Ham have earmarked him as a potential signing for next summer. The Greek international is valued at around £15m, and Panathinaikos will allow him to play in the Premier League if the right offer comes along.

Ioannidis has been in “irresistible” form this season and enjoying his best goal-scoring campaign. He has scored 13 goals in the Super League Greece, but his form in Europe has caught attention. He scored twice in the Champions League before they were knocked out. After dropping to the Europa League, he has managed five goals in six appearances.

West Ham badly need to sign a new striker

David Moyes sold Gianluca Scamacca last summer and didn’t sign a replacement. The Hammers boss has kept faith in Michail Antonio, while Jarrod Bowen has mostly played the number nine role.

Bowen has enjoyed a terrific season for the Hammers, managing 15 goals in the league. However, he cannot be a long-term solution and the club need to sign a young striker who can guarantee goals.

Ideally, Moyes should look to sign someone with loads of Premier League experience. They have been linked with Ivan Toney, who could be a solid addition to the squad.

However, Ioannidis won’t be a bad option either. His record in Europe suggests that he can settle in quickly in the Premier League, and would come at a decent price, which is definitely within West Ham’s budget.
