777 Partners sued in new fraud case amid Everton takeover

Everton prospective owners, 777 Partners, have landed in fresh trouble after they have been sued for allegedly borrowing assets they did not control, according to a report from The Telegraph.

The Miami-based investment firm fraudulently borrowed £280m worth of assets that did not exist.

Sean Dyche has done a terrific job at the club once again and the Toffees have more or less secured Premier League safety. Considering the fact that they were docked ten points, the achievement looks fantastic.

However, Everton need to sort out their ownership situation. According to a report from the Financial Times, two US-based insurance firms – Atlantic Coast Life Insurance and Sentinel Security – have filed a lawsuit against AM Best.

Since being founded by Josh Wander and Steven Pasko in 2015, the 777 Partners have been plagued by controversy. A lawsuit was filed on Friday in New York, damaging their reputation amid uncertainty over the Everton takeover.

Farhad Moshiri has already transferred the majority of his shares to 777, but the Premier League has yet to give them a green signal to complete the takeover process.

The Telegraph adds that the Premier League will also investigate the matter of Australian budget airline Bonza, which entered voluntary administration. However, sources close to 777 are confident that this will not impact their efforts to secure ownership at Everton.

The ownership problem needs to be sorted out, otherwise the Toffees could land in loads of trouble. Last month, they borrowed around £16 million to run day-to-day business, and at some point, stability is needed.

The 777 Partners until now haven’t met all the criteria asked by the Premier League. What has been really worrying is that there is now genuine doubt about whether they have the finance needed to pay off the stadium debts.

Everton cannot continue to operate every season without sufficient funding. They need a clear-cut strategy to comply with the PSR rules and at the same time bring in quality players who can improve the squad.
