Aaron Ramsdale price too high for Newcastle United

Newcastle United will be looking to sign a new goalkeeper this summer and they are checking on several options.

The Magpies are primarily looking to sign a backup goalkeeper who can challenge Nick Pope for a regular starting role. Pope is the first-choice keeper at the club but missed many games last season due to a shoulder injury.

Martin Dubravka has been a reliable keeper all these years, but the Magpies are looking for an upgrade over the 35-year-old shot-stopper.

Newcastle wanted to sign Arsenal goalkeeper Arsenal Ramsdale in the January window but the move didn’t materialise.

Since then, the Magpies have been constantly linked with the 26-year-old goalkeeper who has dropped down the pecking order at the club behind David Raya.

His situation is unlikely to improve next season, and Ramsdale could look to leave the club to get regular game time.

Eddie Howe knows him very well, and he is still on Newcastle’s radar. However, according to a report from the Daily Mail, Ramdale is proving to be too expensive for Newcastle, and they are looking at options elsewhere.

Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale is on the list of targets but, at present, sources say the asking price is too high,” wrote Craig Hope.

Newcastle may not move for Aaron Ramsdale

The Magpies are expected to spend cautiously in the summer transfer keeping in mind the spending rules. Ramsdale signed a new long-term contract at Arsenal in May last year, so the Gunners are likely to demand a high transfer fee for him.

Last season, he made only six Premier League appearances for the Gunners, and couldn’t even manage 12 games in all competitions. He would welcome a move to Tyneside, but unless Arsenal drop their asking price, it’s unlikely the Magpies would move for him.

In recent weeks, Newcastle have been linked with a move for Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, but Los Che would demand a fee of £30 million, which could be a stumbling block.

Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford has been linked with a move, and he has admirers within St James’ Park. He would be available for around £20m, but the Magpies face strong competition from Chelsea.

In other Newcastle transfer news, the Magpies have set sight on 23-year-old midfielder this summer.
