Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte is expected to become Napoli manager in the coming days, and he could come back to haunt Spurs with some of his decisions.
The 54-year-old wants the Serie A club to strengthen their defence during the summer transfer window, and Torino centre-back Alessandro Buongiorno has emerged as one of his targets, according to Italian outlet Area Napoli.
The 24-year-old has been one of the best defenders in the Italian top-flight this term, and Tottenham want to bring him to the Premier League ahead of next season with manager Ange Postecoglou keen to bolster his defence.
However, remaining in the Serie A could be more appealing to Buongiorno with Conte now interested in recruiting his services.
The former Spurs boss also wants Barcelona-owned centre-back Clement Lenglet having been impressed with him while he was on loan at the North London club.
The Frenchman worked with Conte in 2022-23, adapting well to the Italian’s system and largely playing as a key player, making 35 appearances across all competitions.
Tottenham parted with Conte in March 2023, and they refused to sign Lenglet permanently as Postecoglou had other ideas.
Both could now get reunited at Napoli as Aston Villa are unexpected to sign him permanently after his loan spell this term, while the Italian manager also has Spurs centre-back Radu Dragusin on his radar.
The Romanian joined the Lilywhites from Genoa in January 2024 but played just nine games before the season ended, starting just four times.
Dragusin is said to be open to a return to Italy if it means guaranteed playing chances, and Conte is ready to offer him just that as Postecoglou does not appear to be a fan of his style.
Napoli could end up having the 22-year-old, Lenglet and Buongiorno in their squad if their soon-to-be manager has his ways, and the triple deal could end up haunting Spurs.
