Arsenal target Frimpong heading for Bayer exit

Arsenal target Jeremie Frimpong is heading for a summer exit at Bayer Leverkusen, according to German outlet Bild.

The Netherlands international played a huge role as Xabi Alonso’s side pipped Bayern Munich to win the Bundesliga title for the first time in their history, but he is unlikely to remain at BayArena beyond this season.

Arsenal have been keeping tabs on Frimpong for a while, and the chance to finally land him appears to be presenting itself this summer, with a deal likely to be struck for the £35 million-rated star before the European Championship in June.

While Ben White has impressed at right-back all season, the Gunners are still keen on bolstering their options in the position despite the return of Jurrien Timber from a long-term injury.

Frimpong is one of the best right-backs in the world right now, and the speed demon will be perfect for Arsenal given what he brings to the table.

The 23-year-old has 14 goals and seven assists in 43 games this season, and signing a player capable of regularly influencing results will be huge for the North Londoners.

Speed is a quality Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta could do with in the inverted full-back system he plays, and the Leverkusen star’s maximum speed is currently 35.96 km/h, placing him in ninth place in the list of fastest players in Bundesliga history.

The Manchester City academy graduate is also an excellent dribbler and passes excellently well.

While Frimpong is more popular for his attacking prowess, his defensive contribution is also top-notch and it is not a surprise that he has made the Bundesliga Team of the Season two seasons in a row.

The former Celtic star never got to make a senior appearance for Man City but could finally get the opportunity to establish himself as a Premier League star should he move to Arsenal.
