Aston Villa are keen on signing Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Carlos Soler when the summer transfer window opens, according to Spanish outlet Estadio Deportivo.
The Spain international could leave the newly-crowned Ligue 1 champions in the coming weeks having struggled for playing chances under manager Luis Enrique, and Villa manager Unai Emery and president of football operations Monchi want to ensure the Midlands club are in pole position to land him once the opportunity arises.
Emery has put a phone call out to Soler, but the Villans will face fierce competition from Spanish clubs looking to bring the midfielder back to La Liga, with Real Sociedad, Villarreal and Sevilla also keen on landing him.
The 27-year-old has featured in 27 games across all competitions for PSG this term, with 14 of them coming from the bench while he played just eight minutes during their Champions League campaign.
Soler could find it more difficult to play more minutes under Enrique going forward as the PSG boss is clearly not a fan of his style of play, and Emery will hope to convince him to join Villa.
The Villa Park outfit will be playing in the Champions League next term after finishing the campaign in fourth place, which makes them even more attractive to potential transfer targets, and Soler could be open to a move.
The former Valencia star brings plenty of valuable experience to the table and is capable of recovering his former form under Emery.
The Spaniard bagged 22 league goals and 13 assists in his last two seasons in La Liga, and his ability to also play at both full-back positions will be an added advantage if Villa pip others to his services.
However, they have to sell first before being able to recruit players and signing Soler on loan would be in their best interest.
