Celtic likely to receive bids for Mikey Johnston

Celtic are likely to sell Mikey Johnston in the summer transfer window.

The Daily Record has listed 15 players who could leave Celtic Park in the summer, including Johnston.

The Bhoys did not enjoy a smooth ride in the 2023-24 campaign, but they ended up winning the SPFL and the Scottish FA Cup.

However, Celtic need to make quality signings to move forward and Brendan Rodgers could be looking to offload a host of fringe players.

Johnston has progressed through the Celtic youth ranks and has made over 90 appearances for the club. He has been a decent squad player but never really shone bright enough to become a regular first-team player.

Rodgers vented his frustration over the form of Johnston and sent him on loan to West Brom, a move that has worked wonders for him.

Johnston was one of Carlos Corberan’s key players, managing seven goals and two assists last season. The Daily Record suggests that Celtic are likely to receive “many millions” for the 25-year-old player as a result of his strong loan performance.

Who else could leave Celtic?

The Bhoys could be looking to bolster their forward department, and Rodgers has made it clear that he wants Adam Idah to join permanently. If he joins, Oh Hyeon-gyu could leave the club. The South Korea international has barely featured and failed to make an appearance since February.

Gustaf Lagerbielke arrived last summer and could have left the club in January. He has failed to make an impact and his departure looks increasingly likely. Yuki Kobayashi is another defender who failed to manage a single minute of first-team football for Celtic this year, and his departure looks certain.

Matt O’Riley could leave the club as well. Ideally, Celtic will want to keep him at the club for as long as they can, but several top clubs are vying for his signature. He can leave for a bumper fee with Newcastle one of the clubs looking to get him on board.
