Everton have done incredibly well to avoid relegation this season and Sean Dyche deserves a lot of praise.
In fact, the Toffees should have been in the top half of the table had they not docked of ten points.
Interestingly, Everton can play a big role in shaping the fate of the title race. If they win against Arsenal, the Premier League title will go to Manchester City irrespective of their result against West Ham on the final day.
It will be interesting to see how the transfer window unfolds for Everton. The Toffees could find themselves in great trouble if they do not find a new owner. Without proper funding, the club cannot develop a clear-cut transfer strategy.
According to a report from the Scottish Sun, Everton are one of the clubs “poised to crank up” interest in Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley. Brighton are leading the race at the moment, while West Ham are also keen to secure his signature.
Matt O’Riley would be massive signing for Everton
The 23-year-old midfielder is expected to move on this summer after a fantastic two-and-a-half-year spell in Glasgow.
He has enjoyed a superb campaign for the Bhoys, helping them win the Scottish Premiership title yet again. The Denmark midfielder has been influential for the Bhoys and Brendan Rodgers has hailed him for his “phenomenal” contributions.
Everton scouted him during Celtic’s 2-1 win over Rangers, where O’Riley scored for the Hoops.
During the January transfer window, Atletico Madrid submitted a bid in the region of £20m but it was swiftly rejected by Celtic. It has been suggested that any potential suitor will have to pay more than £25m, the fee Kieran Tierney commanded when he moved to Arsenal.
Given Everton’s financial woes, it doesn’t look like they can afford to pay big to sign him unless they sell one or two top players. Amadou Onana has been frequently linked with an exit, while Jarrard Branthwaite has been targeted by several top clubs.
