Liverpool are showing keen interest in signing Atalanta midfielder Teun Koopmeiners as they look to bolster their midfield this summer.
The Reds will be heavily boosted in their chase for the 26-year-old midfielder after Atalanta president Antonio Percassi insisted that they must find a replacement before Koopmeiners is allowed to leave.
Liverpool signed Alexis MacAllister, Ryan Gravenberch, Wataru Endo and Dominik Szoboszlai last summer as Jurgen Klopp made massive changes to his midfield set-up. Curtis Jones has become an influential midfielder, while Trent Alexander-Arnold is also capable of playing in central midfield.
However, the Reds are still looking to add more quality in that area, and Koopmeiners has emerged as a possible target. Arne Slot is a big fan of the midfielder who helped Atalanta win the Europa League this year. The pair has worked together during their time at AZ Alkmaar.
Fabrizio Romano has suggested that while “more links” with Liverpool are coming up, he has been told that Koopmeiners remains a top target for Juventus.
“We’re seeing more links with Liverpool, but I’m still told he’s a priority target for Juventus this summer. Juve are working on it,” wrote Romano.
“Let’s see what happens at Liverpool but my information is that there is nothing concrete so far, we will see as soon as Arne Slot meets with the club’s new directors.”
Teun Koopmeiners would be superb addition for Liverpool
The fact that Atalanta are planning to find a replacement for the Dutch midfielder should encourage Liverpool to test their resilience. It would take in the region of £50 million to sign him, and the midfielder could become Slot’s first signing at the club.
The summer transfer window could be really exciting for the Reds following Michael Edwards’s return to the club. He now has a solid team under him and Liverpool are expected to do extensive research before signing any player. Having said that, it is still unclear whether Liverpool will make any concrete effort to sign Koopmeiners.
Liverpool also need to sign a new centre-back in the summer window, and the Reds have been linked with a move for Lille defender Leny Yoro.
