Rangers are close to securing their first signing of the summer with Jose Cordoba heading towards Ibrox.
According to a report from the Daily Record, the 22-year-old defender has agreed personal terms with the Gers. Rangers now need to agree a deal with Levski Sofia to sign the Panama international.
The Bears may need to dish out £3.2m to secure his services, although it would include future add-ons that are built into the transfer. The club need to pay around £2m upfront.
Cordoba is regarded as one of the top defenders in the Bulgarian league. The left-sided defender recently visited Ibrox to watch Rangers in action against Kilmarnock, and he has been left out of the squad completely.
Rangers transfer activity round-up
This is going to be a huge transfer window for the Bears. Philippe Clement replaced Michael Beale after a poor start from Rangers and has done a tremendous job.
The Gers not only closed the 11-point gap with Celtic but also could have won the Scottish Premiership title. In the end, they failed at the final hurdle and lost their way, as Celtic won the league title once again.
However, there are signs of improvement and Rangers can end the season on a high by winning the Scottish FA Cup. Clement needs two or three transfer windows to build the squad to his taste, and that’s why the club need to back him with funds in the market.
Bolstering the defence is a priority for the Gers boss. After signing a centre-back, they will turn their attention towards signing a new left-back, with Borna Barisic having agreed to join Turkish side Trabzonspor.
Brazilian defender Jefte is a long-term target for the Bears but they have other options on the summer list. The Scottish giants are also extensively checking on Rapid Bucharest’s Kosovan forward Albion Rrahmani.
