Newcastle United ‘priority target’ Llyod Kelly wants to leave Bournemouth

Newcastle United have been heavily linked with a move for AFC Bournemouth defender Llyod Kelly this summer.

The Magpies are looking to bolster their defence in the summer transfer window, following the injuries to Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles.

Both the players are set to miss a chunk of action next season, and Newcastle are looking to fill the void with quality additions.

The 25-year-old defender will become a free agent this summer, and according to Fabrizio Romano, he has already informed the Cherries that he wants to leave the club.

He is one of the “priority targets” for the Magpies, and the news will come as a massive boost for the club.

Romano wrote on X: “Understand Lloyd Kelly has informed Bournemouth of his decision to leave the club as free agent. Newcastle consider Kelly as priority target for the summer transfer window, as reported two weeks ago.”

Newcastle United summer transfer plans

The Magpies struggled with injuries in the recently concluded Premier League campaign, but Eddie Howe’s side showed great quality towards the end, finishing seventh in the table.

It will be interesting to see how they approach the summer window. Newcastle are expected to operate on a tight budget as they are close to breaching the PSR limit.

There are suggestions that the Magpies may have to sell some of their star players to make room for fresh additions, although Howe is confident of keeping their best players at the club.

Newcastle are more likely to look for free agents and bargain deals this summer, and that’s why signing Kelly makes a lot of sense. Kelly has a wealth of Premier League experience and he has previously played under Howe at Bournemouth.

The versatile defender can operate as a left full-back as well. The Magpies are also looking to sign Fulham defender Tosin Adarabioyo on a free transfer.
