Sean Dyche reacts as Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite misses Premier League nomination

Everton will travel to north London on Sunday for the final game of the season when they will face Arsenal in the Premier League.

The Toffees have secured Premier League safety this season despite being docked ten points. Sean Dyche’s side should have been on 10th without a point deduction, and this should be seen as a significant step forward.

As things stand, Manchester City need a win against West Ham to lift the title. Even a draw may not be enough if Arsenal win against Everton.

Ahead of the match, Sean Dyche was asked to comment on Jarrad Branthwaite who has unfortunately been left out of Premier League Young Player of the Year nominations.

Dyche says he was “amazed” that Branthwaite was not included in the list. Phil Foden, Cole Palmer, Bikayo Saka, William Saliba, Destiny Udogie, Erling Haaland, Kobbie Mainoo, and Alexander Isak are contenders for this prestigious award.

The Toffees boss feels that the 21-year-old defender should have been included as well.

“Jarrad Branthwaite didn’t make the list. I was amazed by that,” said Dyche.

Could Branthwaite leave this summer?

Branthwaite has been outstanding for Everton this season. He has made 34 starts in the Premier League and has scored three goals.

His impressive performances have earned rich praise from pundits with Ian Wright calling him a “monster”.

The big challenge for Everton now is whether they will be able to keep hold of their star player. The Everton ownership situation is a mess at the moment, and reports are emerging that Farhad Moshiri could terminate the contract with 777 Partners and look for other investors.

Dyche needs funds in the summer window to bring in players, but transfer decisions won’t be easy without the new owner in place.

The Telegraph reported in March that Manchester United have earmarked Brathwaite as an option to bolster their defence. He has a contract at Goodison Park until 2027 and the Red Devils need to pay over £50m to secure his signature.
