Serie A club Torino will demand at least €40 million from suitors for Tottenham Hotspur target and Italy international centre-back Alessandro Buongiorno, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web.
Spurs are looking to bolster their ranks during the summer transfer window after missing out on a top-four finish in the 2023-24 Premier League season, and manager Ange Postecoglou is keen on strengthening his defensive options.
Buongiorno is one of the players on the radar of the North London club, but they will face competition from AC Milan, Inter Milan, Napoli and Juventus for his services.
The 24-year-old is expected to leave Torino in the summer, and President Urbano Cairo wants nothing less than €40m before beginning negotiations with interested parties.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy must back his manager in the transfer window if he wants Spurs to win their first piece of silverware since 2008 anytime soon, and landing Buongiorno will go a long way in improving their squad.
The 6ft 4in Torino star has been limited to just 29 appearances across all competitions this season due to an injury, but he has managed to weigh in with three goals and has largely impressed anytime he was on the pitch.
Tottenham conceded 61 goals in 38 league games in 2023-24 and will have to improve significantly at the back if they want to secure a return to the Champions League at the end of next term or win a major trophy.
Buongiorno has proven himself over the last four seasons in the Italian top-flight and is capable of taking the Spurs’ defence to the next level if a deal can be sealed in the coming weeks.
However, he needs to be guaranteed a place in their starting XI for him to agree to a transfer, and that may not be a given considering the options currently available to Postecoglou.
