West Ham United target Simon Banza is set to play his last game for Braga when they face Porto on Saturday in their last game of the 2023-24 Primeira Liga campaign, according to Portuguese outlet Correio da Manha.
The DR Congo international striker is on the radar of the Hammers ahead of the summer transfer window, and it appears they have been handed a boost as Porto are ready to sell him.
The Portuguese club believe this summer is their best chance to cash in on Banza although there are still three years left on his contract, and they are ready to do business for €25 million and ignore his €40m release clause.
It is a huge boost for West Ham who are in desperate need to bolster their attacking ranks ahead of next term following an underwhelming campaign.
The Hammers’ outgoing manager David Moyes had to deploy winger Jarrod Bowen as a number 9 for a large chunk of the season, and while the England international weighed in with 16 league goals, the need to land a traditional striker is pertinent if West Ham are to challenge for Europe next term.
Banza fits the bill after bagging 21 goals in 27 league games so far, and he is hoping to sign off on an impressive note tomorrow having not scored since April 1.
The 27-year-old speed demon plays in a similar way to Bowen, and West Ham adding him to an attack that already consists of the Englishman and Mohammed Kudus will make it difficult for opponents to contain them in counterattack situations.
The former RC Lens striker boasts very strong finishing, can dribble well and is also a constant aerial threat, and West Ham have to ensure they land him ahead of other suitors as he could be available for a bargain fee.
