Archie Gray will complete medical shortly after Leeds United agree deal

Leeds United have agreed a deal with Brentford for midfielder Archie Gray.

According to a report from Sky Sports, the Whites have agreed an initial £35 million fee offer from Brentford, and the price could go up to £40 million with add-ons.

Leeds have given the versatile midfielder permission to undergo his medical.

Graham Smyth of the Yorkshire Evening Times claims that Gray is close to sealing a move, and the medical is expected tonight, that is on 29 June.

Smyth wrote on X: “The deal is £40m, potential for add ons and payment schedule still being discussed.

“Medical will be completed by tonight. Brentford will want it wrapped up asap to avoid hijacking. Spurs and Chelsea still keen. P&S written all over it but still going to be hard to explain.”

As per reports from YEP, the fee for the transfer is around £40 million plus potential add-ons, but the two clubs have not officially confirmed the deal, and a payment schedule still being discussed.

Could there be a late twist in the tale? Now that clubs know how much Leeds wants and what Brentford is offering, London giants Tottenham and Chelsea could come up with even better offers and lucrative pay packages to hijack the deal.

While Brentford have made the first move to sign the midfielder, the door remains open for other clubs to make an approach for Gray.

The likes of Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund and Liverpool have all reportedly been following Gray with interest, and it could become really interesting if they join the party too, which could result in a bidding war for the highly talented midfielder.

Gray has progressed through the club’s youth ranks, which means whatever Leeds earns from his sale will be seen as a pure profit. Yet Leeds did not want to lose their generational talent, who enjoyed a breakthrough campaign last season.

However, after failing to secure a promotion to the Premier League, they need to comply with financial rules, and the offer from Brentford is too good to turn down.
