Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Porto midfielder Alan Varela.
The 22-year-old joined the Portuguese club last summer from Boca Juniors for a fee around £6.8 million.
He hit the ground running at the Estádio do Dragão, making 44 appearances across all competitions and scoring two goals.
The Argentine started all eight Champions League games last season as Porto made it to the Round of 16.
Their European journey ended at that stage after a penalty shootout loss to Arsenal, but the Gunners were left impressed with the 22-year-old’s performances against them.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Mikel Arteta’s side are among several clubs who are interested in securing Varela’s services this summer.
The North Londoners missed out on the Premier League title again despite being excellent throughout the campaign.
They will look to bolster their ranks this summer to challenge for the title in 2024-25.
With Thomas Partey facing an uncertain future at the Emirates Stadium, the Gunners want to add a quality midfielder and believe Varela to be a good fit.
He has a contract at Porto until 2028 but a lucrative offer could convince the Primeira Liga side to sell him in the next transfer window.
Apart from Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester City and RB Leipzig have also been credited with an interest in the Argentine.
