Serie A giants AC Milan are in talks with Aston Villa over a move for Polish right-back Matty Cash, according to talkSPORT.
The Villans defied the odds during the 2023/24 Premier League season by securing a historic Champions League qualification.
However, they could be forced to cash in on some of their valuable assets this summer to stay in line with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).
Cash is one of several players linked with a potential exit, and he has emerged as a target for Milan, who are keen to land his signature.
The Poland international is valued at around £20 million, with Villa keen to make a profit on a player who cost them north of £16m when he joined from Nottingham Forest in 2020.
The 26-year-old has established himself as a mainstay for both club and country since switching City Ground for Villa Park.
He has racked up 142 appearances for Villa, contributing nine goals and ten assists.
He notched five goals and three assists in 46 games across all competitions last season. He also created six big chances in the Premier League.
Cash’s consistent performances for Villa earned him a permanent spot in Poland’s national team, where he has earned 15 caps.
However, a recent calf injury has ruled him out of the upcoming European Championship in Germany.
Cash signed a new five-year deal with Villa in 2022 and still has three years left to run on his contract, but his spell in the Midlands could end this summer.
Villa are keen to avoid PSR sanctions after reporting losses of £119m in their accounts up to May 2023, so they are willing to listen to offers for the former Forest defender.
Cash isn’t the only Villa player who could be heading to Italy this summer. Brazilian midfielder Douglas Luiz is also closing in on a move to Juventus.
The Serie A giants are confident of snapping up the 26-year-old in a two-player plus cash transfer.
Weston McKennie and Samuel Iling-Junior will likely be heading in the opposite direction, while Villa will also pocket €20m from the swap deal.
