Brighton agree deal to sign Newcastle attacker Yankuba Minteh

Brighton and Hove Albion have reached an agreement to sign Newcastle United attacker Yankuba Minteh.

According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, a fee in the region of £33 million has been agreed for the exciting winger.

The Magpies have given the 19-year-old permission to discuss personal terms with Brighton, and this should not be a major issue.

Newcastle badly need to sell Minteh to ease their difficulties with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

The Magpies had previously agreed a deal with Lyon for Minteh, but the player didn’t want to join the French club. He wanted to stay in the Premier League and even had agreed personal terms with Everton.

Newcastle left themselves open to a possible points deduction for next season as they struggled to comply with the Premier League’s financial rules. The Magpies even tried to sell their last season’s best player, Anthony Gordon to Liverpool, such was their desperation.

However, selling Minteh to Brighton for over £30 million should be enough to stay within the loss limits, and they can now hold on to stars like Anthony Gordon and Alexander Isak.

Premier League rivals Chelsea have approached Newcastle to sign Isak by offering Nicolas Jackson as part of a deal, but the Magpies easily reject such advances.

Minteh joined Newcastle from Odense Boldklub last summer and enjoyed a successful loan spell at Dutch side Feyenoord, where he registered 10 goals and six assists in 27 Eredivisie matches.

Ideally, Eddie Howe would have loved to keep him at the club, but he is now all set for summer exit.
