Chelsea eye move for Leeds United midfielder Archie Gray

Chelsea are showing keen interest in signing Leeds United youngster Archie Gray in the summer transfer window.

According to a report from The Telegraph, the Blues have registered an interest in the 18-year-old versatile Leeds player, although they have not made any formal offers yet.

Leeds have financial issues to solve after failing to secure promotion to the Premier League last season, and they could be forced to sell some of their top players.

The Whites want well over £30 million for Gray, who can play in multiple positions, including full-back roles.

The highly-rated youngster wants to stay at his boyhood club, but a host of other Premier League and European clubs have shown interest in signing him.

Chelsea are looking to build their squad around exciting young talents. They have signed 18-year-old attacking midfielder Omari Kellyman from Aston Villa and have secured a deal for teenage forward Marc Guiu from Barcelona.

Should Leeds offload Archie Gray?

Ideally, the Whites will try to keep Gray for one more season. Last season, he made 52 appearances in all competitions and enjoyed a proper breakthrough campaign.

Daniel Farke will want the teenager to stay at Elland Road and help the club challenge for promotion yet again. If Leeds fail again, then it makes sense for Gray to leave.

His situation is not the same as that of Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter, or Wilfried Gnonto. That said, Leeds are likely to receive bids for the defender, but whether they would consider selling him is a big question.

There’s a lot of interest in him and Paraag Marathe also didn’t rule out an exit. Whatever, Leeds earn from Gray’s potential sale will be counted as a profit, but losing him will be a massive blow, without an iota of doubt.

In other Leeds news, Euro club are now eyeing move to sign 24-year-old Whites player.
