Fabrizio Romano: Juventus set to hold talks to sign Aston Villa star Douglas Luiz

Juventus are set to hold talks with Aston Villa once again to sign midfielder Douglas Luiz.

The Serie A giants are showing keen interest in signing the 26-year-old midfielder and Villa could be forced into selling their star player this summer.

Villa are under pressure to raise cash before the end of the current PSR period on June 30, and they could be tempted to offload Luiz.

Fabrizio Romano shared on X (10 May) that Juventus are set to hold talks with Villa in the coming days to secure a deal for Luiz. But any potential move is only possible if the Old Lady includes players in the deal.

Last week, Calciomercato reported that Juventus are ready to pay £25 million plus Weston McKennie to sign Luiz.

Romano adds that Samuel Iling Jr. has been discussed as an option to sweeten the deal. The 20-year-old mainly plays as a winger but can also operate as a wingback.

He wrote: “Juventus and Aston Villa, set to talk again about Douglas Luiz in the next days. The only way to make deal happen is by including players to join Aston Villa or… no chance.

“Understand Samuel Iling Jr has been discussed as an option — as well as Weston McKennie.”

Aston Villa should not sell Luiz on the cheap

Villa’s financial situation has become a big problem, and they have to sell one big player to comply with the PSR rules.

Luiz was simply outstanding last season Villa. The Brazilian managed ten goals and ten assists in 53 games across all competitions in 2023-24, and losing him would be a massive blow.

Arsenal are also reportedly keen to sign Luiz but the Gunners have been told to pay up to £50 million.

Both McKennie and Samuel Iling Jr are talented players but should Villa consider a swap deal for Luiz?
