Jamie Shackleton set for Leeds United exit

Leeds United midfielder Jamie Shackleton is close to leaving Elland Road this summer.

The 24-year-old versatile midfielder, who can also play full-back, can leave the Whites for free after the end of this month.

According to Graham Smyth, Leeds have offered him a new deal, and the club are waiting for his decision.

However, the Yorkshire Evening Post has received information that Shackleton is close to reaching an agreement with another club.

Championship rivals Sheffield United are very keen to sign him on a free transfer, but they have to sort out other stuff at the moment.

Like Shackleton, skipper Liam Copper will also be a free agent this summer, and the Whites have offered him a new deal as well.

The midfielder has progressed through the academy ranks and was seen as one of the brightest talents at Thorp Arch.

Marcelo Bielsa spotted his talent and the Argentine was heavily impressed by his maturity. He didn’t hesitate to use him in the Premier League, and it looked like Shackleton was destined for a great future at Elland Road.

Although he did manage 94 appearances for the Whites, he turned out to be a mere squad player and never really fulfilled the potential that many expected of him when he burst onto the scene.

In between, he played for Millwall on loan in 2022-23 where he managed 37 games in all competitions.

Shackleton played only 15 times last season and missed the crucial phase of Leeds’ season through injury, much to the frustration of Daniel Farke.

Leeds United have already sold Marc Roca, who has moved to Real Betis permanently, for an undisclosed fee thought to be around £4 million.

The Whites have offloaded Sonny Perkins to Leyton Orient on loan, while Jack Harrison has returned to Everton for another loan spell.

Leeds goalkeeper Illan Meslier is attracting interest from Marseille and it has been reported that the 24-year-old is keen to join them.
