Celtic defender Gustaf Lagerbielke could leave Celtic Park in the summer transfer window.
The 24-year-old defender was linked with a move to Lecce in the January window, but the deal collapsed in the end. The Sweden international was due to fly to Italy for a medical, but just before the deadline day, the move was called off after Cameron Carter-Vickers picked up an injury.
According to a fresh report from Sky Sports (live blog on 11 June, 18:09 pm), Lecce have made another attempt to sign Lagerbielke in the summer window.
The Serie A club want a loan deal with an option to buy Lagerbielke. He joined Celtic last summer from Elfsborg for £3 million but he struggled to nail down a regular starting place in Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Celtic likely to offload Gustaf Lagerbielke
The Bhoys should be looking to bolster their squad this summer after a hugely successful 2023-24 campaign. Rodgers should be backed properly in the summer market to buy players of his choice.
The Celtic boss should also be ruthless and sell players who are not in his plans. The Hoops paid a handsome fee to sign Lagerbielke but he never managed to impress Rodgers. A move away from Celtic Park works for all parties involved, and Celtic should accept the offer from Lecce.
The Bhoys will be focussing on signing a new goalkeeper, a new centre-back, and a new striker this summer. But Rodgers could make a wholesome change to the squad if more players are allowed to leave.
Oh, Hyeon-gyu is one such player who could be heading towards the exit door. Celtic could also offload Matt O’Riley if they receive a really tempting offer. Everton have been linked with a move with O’Riley, but they probably do not have the funds right now to sign him.
In other Celtic news, the Hoops have registered keen interest in signing an experienced Premier League player who could be allowed to leave.
