Leeds United are showing keen interest in signing PEC Zwolle defender Anselmo Garcia MacNulty in the summer transfer window, according to a report from Voetbal International.
The 21-year-old defender is primarily a centre-back, but he was PEC’s regular left-back last season and can perform a dual role.
Leicester City were also interested in signing him. However, they have other plans now after securing promotion to the Premier League. Leeds, on the other hand, still retain interest despite missing out on promotion last season.
PEC are in no mood to sell the young defender who has become a key player for them since joining last year from VfL Wolfsburg.
Leeds United need to bolster their defence
It is a well-known fact that the Whites need to bolster their full-back areas. With money not available in plenty, Daniel Farke should look to sign players who can perform multiple roles.
The Whites are likely to struggle to get Joe Rodon back this season from Tottenham, even on loan. They could be on the lookout to sign another centre-back who can also play at left-back, and that’s where MacNulty fits in.
Leeds lost both Luke Ayling and Stuart Dallas, and they have limited options in the full-back areas. Connor Roberts, who joined on loan in January, has returned to his parent club after the Whites decided not to sign him permanently.
The Whites have players such as Junior Firpo, Jamie Shackleton, and Sam Byram as full-back options. Of them, only Firpo can be called a natural left-back, and therefore, another extra body in that department will not do any harm.
It will not be easy to lure the young defender away from PEC, and only a tempting offer could force them into selling him.
In other Leeds United news, 23-year-old midfielder likely to play a key role under Farke at Elland Road.
