Leeds United want near £40m for Archie Gray

Leeds United midfielder Archie Gray looks set to leave Elland Road in the coming days.

David Ornstein reported on 29 June that Brentford are leading the race to sign the Whites midfielder and now Adam Pope of BBC Sports has shared another update.

Gray is a generational talent at Elland Road, and Leeds are not going to sell him on the cheap. With so many clubs vying for his signature, the Whites are expected to reap a major profit from his sale.

Pope says that he has been told that Leeds will demand near £40 million plus add-ons for their star player who enjoyed a breakthrough 2023-24 season under Daniel Farke last season.

Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa are also in the race to sign Gray. While his medical is due at Brentford, nothing has been finalised yet.

“It seems a case of when not if now before Archie Gray becomes a Premier League player. Medical due at Brentford in what could be a deal near £40m I’m told plus add ons. But interest in him is intense so with Spurs etc still hovering nothing finalised yet,” wrote Pope on X.

While losing Gray will be a blow, Leeds will be very happy if they sell the player for anything near £40 million. He made 47 appearances in the Championship last season and played a huge role in taking the club to the play-off finals where they lost against Southampton.

Gray has progressed through Leeds’s youth ranks, and all the money will be considered a profit, which will help the club stay clear of the PSR threat.

Leeds could still offload the likes of Crysencio Summerville or Wilfried Gnonto, while young defender Charlie Cresswell is all set to join French club Toulouse.

Gray has a contract at Elland Road until 2028, but it appears that his departure is now a question of when.

It will become very interesting if other potential suitors join the race and make it a bidding war.
